World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft, comúnmente conocido como WoW, es un videojuego de rol online multijugador masivo desarrollado por Blizzard Entertainment disponible para los sistemas operativos Windows y Mac OS X. Está basado en la historia de los videojuegos de la serie de estrategia en tiempo real Warcraft.
El jugador adopta el papel de un personaje que interactúa con otros y desarrolla situaciones en un ambiente fantástico, de forma similar a un juego de rol.
Consta de una expansión: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (2007) y está prevista la publicación de la siguiente: World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, con lanzamiento previsto para el 13 de noviembre de 2008. Las revisiones de parches, bastante frecuentes, también añaden nuevos contenidos.
El juego ha recibido una gran aceptación a nivel mundial. Blizzard Entertainment anunció que a mediados de enero de 2008 existían más de 10 millones de jugadores registrados (pagando suscripción) en todo el mundo, pero principalmente en Estados Unidos, Japón y la Unión Europea.
A finales de 2007 los representantes de la compañía hicieron pública su intención de extenderse por Latinoamérica (concentrándose principalmente en Chile, México, Brasil, y Argentina) durante 2008, con la intención de alcanzar los 15 millones de usuarios en junio de este año.
Blizzard ha anunciado que lanzará la segunda expansión del galardonado e irrefutablemente exitoso juego MMORPG más famoso del mundo.
Las fechas de lanzamiento son:
13 de Noviembre: América del Norte, Europa, México, Argentina, Chile, y Rusia.
14 de Noviembre: Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Singapur, Malasia y Tailandia.
18 de Noviembre: Corea, Taiwán, Hong Kong, Macao. Mientras que en China se anunciará más tarde.
